Diy Party Theme: Pocahontas or Tribal Native American

Looking for inspiration for your party? Here’s 1 for you!

Celebrated a friends birthday last year! Got the invitation to a theme party by my best friend, Syahirah for Syahid’s 23rd birthday! Yay! Syahid had specifically chosen the theme, ‘Sleepocahontas’. Basically a sleepover party over at Pasir Ris Costa Sands Resort Chalet!

Why Sleepocahontas? Because it’s sleepover plus the theme is …. *drum rolls* Pocahontas or also known as Tribal Native American! And the best part is.. Most things decorated are diy and handmade and some are things you can get cheaply around the stores! I had wanted to cut out & sew my own costume and diy all of my accessories but time was limited and since I was busy with work & work, decided to look around the house and reuse, recycle & reduce ($ of course!). So here’s what I wore!

What I wore from top to bottom:

Head:  Feathered headband diy by inserting the feather to the headband

Ears: Turquoise Feather earring (a gift from a friend)

Face: Minimal makeup for natural look

Neck: Mum’s tribal like necklace

Body: Mum’s very old & unworn dress in light brown

Arm: Swirl Tattoo like stretchy bracelet

Wrist: White band tied many times to make it look tribal

Ankle: Seashell bracelet

Here’s my bestfriend:

Wrist: Tribal / Vintage like bangle

Here’s the birthday boy.

What he wore:

Head: Pleated White & Brown String tied into headband & feather tucked in

Face: Face paint in red & yellow over cheek

Neck: Feather necklace

Body: Grey body hugging tunic & tribal vest over

Wrist: Tribal / Vintage like bangle

Legs: Jeans

So how do we decorate the place? Simple! Birthday boy bought a ball of feather like strings which we use to hang from 1 end to another in a criss cross manner and just let it hang randonmly at a medium height.

Then uses lightstick to form balls and hang it on the string, use individual balance light stick and randomly hanging it over the string.

Here’s some pics of it:

And polaroid photos hanged using tape over string! And of course balloons, feather & handmade dream catcher made by birthday boy! Yes he did it infront of me so I can say that the dream catcher photo below is authentic & originally his! Erm, I can’t remember what he uses exactly for the round base but I’m certain that if you search the web, you’ll find lots and lots of tutorials & videos on how to make a dream catcher!

See? How simple it can be right? Other ideas includes making your own tent and fire using blankets or bedsheets & paper roll as wood.

Share with me your theme party if you had one! For those who never had a theme party, time of the year to make a twist in that to make your event outstanding & memorable!

Goodluck!
