Chawanmushi, soba & tempura cheese maki review @Sakae Sushi Sun Plaza

Having being a freelancer, I have lots of time to myself but have yet to figure out a great way to utilise those free days thriftly.

So being a sushi lover, especially for the love of Japanese food, I’ve decided to start eating and taste as much food as I can in a Japanese restaurant, alternating my chosen dishes instead of just ordering the same dish over and over again.

So here I am at Sakae Sushi Sun Plaza on a great Friday, 9/3/2012.

What?
Sakae Chawanmushi

How?
Steamed egg with gingko nut, chicken, shitake mushroom, and crab stick. Topped with shimeiji mushroom and vegetarian shark’s fin

Review?
Nicely served in a beautiful bowl, colour was soft and tempting enough to make you wanna taste.

Touched with a spoon, texture was smooth and I wouldn’t say silky. Not watery on the top, no bubbles, great as per a chawanmushi should.

Upon tasting, it wasn’t as smooth as I’ve tried somewhere but I can’t mention the place as I need to reconfirm it when I go to another area. But it is ok, not Very smooth but still quite smooth. The taste was pretty much ok, there was fish cake, shark fin, mushroom and crab stick. It wasn’t salty, it does taste pretty much well blended with its sauces and all.

What:
Cold Soba

How:
Chilled Japanese green tea buckwheat noodle served with quail’s egg, wasabi, spring onion, seaweed and soba sauce

Review:
It’s my first time trying a cold soba. In love with it! Smooth, cold light & soft soba. The sauce was served cold too! And it compliments the dish very well.

When eaten dry without the sauce, it’s pretty nice with the taste of the seaweed that tops with it and the sauce just makes it juicier. A light side dish great to get you started!

Umm recipe says it has quail’s eggs but i don’t see any.

Anyways, great to eat as a beginning or ending dish.

What:
Tempura Cheese Maki (4pcs)

How:
Sushi roll filled with crispy tempura prawn, cheese and shrimp roe (4pcs)

Review:
Taste was simple and light. Taught it would be cheesy but turns out the cheese wasn’t much, only a little. There was also cucumber in it, making it more crunchy.

Would love to have a little bit more cheese in it as the taste of the cheese vanish as u bite.

Overall, the service was excellent, place was very clean and well kept. Except that the hot water drips after each time i dispensed it. It’s best if Sakae Sushi would be able to repair that. Otherwise my experience was excellent. Keep it up!

Well hope you’ll find this useful! Do share with me your views on these 3 dishes if you’ve already tried!
